Methodology and approach
The generator builds a block of HTML meta tags from the form: the content type, title, description, keywords and robots directives, plus the optional language, revisit-after and author tags, with every value escaped so special characters cannot break the markup.
An HTML meta tag generator turns the details of a web page - its title, description and keywords, plus the crawler, encoding and language settings you choose - into the block of HTML meta tags that belongs in the document's head. Instead of writing each tag by hand and worrying about quoting and escaping, you fill in a form and copy finished markup.
The tags it produces describe the page to everything that reads the head rather than the visible page: search engines use the title and description to label a result, the browser uses the content-type declaration to render characters correctly, and the robots directive states whether the page may be indexed and its links followed. Calzyra's generator escapes every value it writes, so quotes, ampersands and angle brackets in your text can never break the markup.
1. Enter your site title, site description and site keywords. These three fields are required, and live counters beside the first two show how many characters remain against the 70-character title and 150-character description guidelines.
2. Choose whether search engines may index the page and whether they may follow its links, pick the character encoding your site uses, and select the primary language of the site - or no language tag at all.
3. Optionally switch on the revisit-after directive with a number of days, and switch on an author name for the author meta tag. Both tags are left out of the output while they are switched off or empty.
4. Click Generate Meta Tags, review the HTML in the Output panel, then click Copy to Clipboard and paste the block into the head section of your page's HTML document - or into the SEO fields of your CMS or site builder, which accept the same values.

The meta description is the summary that often appears beneath it: it is not a ranking factor on its own, but an honest description written for the page is what earns the click.
The other tags solve specific problems. The robots directive can keep a page out of the index or stop links on it being followed, which is useful for staging pages and private areas. The content-type declaration makes sure accented and non-Latin characters render correctly, and the language value states, in machine-readable form, which language the page is written in. No collection of meta tags by itself guarantees a ranking position; what they do is make sure a page is described accurately and rendered correctly wherever it is read.
